The Pentagon today announced the release of $1.1 billion in military aid to Ukraine in the form of military defense equipment
This new package, which aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defense in the medium and long term, includes, among other things, 18 HIMARS multiple launch missile systems, 150 Humvee armored vehicles, spare parts and anti-aircraft defense systems to deal with unmanned aerial vehicles.
These weapon systems are not intended for Ukrainian forces currently fighting the Russian army in eastern and southern Ukraine, as they will be handed over to Kyiv after several months.
The new aid “demonstrates the commitment of the US to continue to support Ukraine in the long term”, the Pentagon underlines.
This new package brings US military aid to Ukraine to $16.2 billion since the start of the war in February, and to $16.9 billion since Joe Biden took office in January 2021. .
