New Ambassador Will Strengthen U.S. Partnership With Brazil At This Critical Moment, Says Biden’s Deputy

The new US ambassador to Brazil, Elizabeth Bagley, was sworn in on Monday (9) by the vice president of the country, Kamala Harris. She had been nominated by President Joe Biden for the position in January 2022.

Bagley has worked in diplomacy and law for more than four decades, according to a White House statement.

“Today I had the honor of inducting Elizabeth Bagley as our next Ambassador to Brazil. An experienced diplomat, Bagley will work to strengthen our partnership with President Lula and the Brazilian people at a critical time,” wrote Kamala Harris on social media.

Bagley’s diplomatic experience includes serving as Senior Advisor to Secretaries of State John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and Madeline Albright.

She has also served as a Special Representative to the United Nations General Assembly, Special Representative for Global Partnerships, and US Ambassador to Portugal, receiving the Grand Cross of Infante D. Henrique, Portugal’s highest civilian decoration.

Previously, Bagley served as an attorney at the law firm of Manatt, Phelps, in Washington, specializing in international law.

She has also worked as an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center and as an associate producer for ABC News in Paris, France, and Washington, according to the White House.

Earlier in his career, Bagley served at the State Department as Congressional Representative for the Panama Canal Treaties, Special Assistant for the Camp David Accords, and Congressional Representative for the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Accords). , in Madrid, Spain.
