New astronaut Barbie Samantha Cristoforetti traveled in space

The doll was sent into space “Barbie Samantha Cristoforetti “named after the Italian astronaut with the aim of encouraging more girls from the European continent to become astronauts, engineers and space scientists.

THE European Space Agency (ESA) and Mattel have decided to present this new World Space Week 2021 with the theme “Women in Space”.

“Samantha” in a parabolic flight of zero gravity was photographed inside the spaceship, while a video was created and relevant educational material for parents and teachers, suitable for primary school children (barbie.com).

Part of the proceeds from the sales of the new Barbie in Europe is expected, as broadcast by the Athens News Agency, to be given to the non-profit organization “Women in Aerospace Europe”.

The ESA-Mattel collaboration began in 2019, while the first astronaut doll was created in 1965.

Dolls have been created along the way with the models of the American space agency (NASA) Sally Ryde, the Russian cosmonaut Ana Kikina and now the European Samantha Christoforetti.
