A new documentary about the Beatles will be produced by Martin Scorsese and promises to capture the moment when artists arrived in America for the first time, in the 1960s. Titled “Beatles ’64” the production hits the Disney+ catalog on November 29th.
Directed by David Tedeschi, the film will feature never-before-seen footage of the band and the legions of fans who helped fuel their rise. According to information from the Beatles’ official website, on February 7, 1964, the Liverpool quartet – formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr – arrived in New York City, where they were welcomed by thousands of fans.
On that occasion, the rock band also performed for more than 70 million viewers on the Sunday variety program, “The Ed Sullivan Show”, which at the time was one of the most watched programs in the country. In February this year, the Beatles’ debut on American TV turned 60 years old.
According to information from the band’s portal, the film includes rare scenes filmed by documentary filmmakers Albert and David Maysles, restored in 4K by Park Road Post in New Zealand. Live performances from the Beatles’ first American concert in Washington and their appearances on Ed Sullivan were demixed by WingNut Films and remixed by Giles Martin.
In addition to older footage, the documentary will also feature newly filmed interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
