New biography celebrates 80 years of Chico Buarque

The singer and composer from Rio Chico Buarque 79, will have a new unauthorized biography about him published next Monday (6). The work celebrates its almost 80 years from six aspects of his public and private life: politics, literature, fame, controversies, censorship and football.

“Exchanging kids: six times Chico” was written by the Jabuti award-winning journalist Tom Cardoso and will be published by record publisher .

The narrative woven by Cardoso explores Chico's experiences, from his clashes with censorship during the dark years of the military dictatorship to the most intimate aspects of his creative processes.

Unauthorized, the biography brings together testimonies from people close to the singer, such as his daughter Silvia Buarque, interviews and extensive bibliographic research to present the reader with a multiple portrait of one of the greatest living artists in Brazilian popular culture.

Historian's son Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and intellectual Maria Amélia Buarque de Holanda Chico Buarque stands out for musical compositions, but also in theater, literature and political activism.

This book will be another biography written by Tom Cardoso, who has also published in-depth profiles of Caetano Veloso, Nara Leão and the football player Sócrates.

“I love Tom's biographies. Because of him, I fell in love with Tarso de Castro, I became a retroactive Sócrates fan, and I put the Nara cover next to my father's photo. Not to mention Caetano, who I was lucky enough to love in life”, says Maria Ribeiro at the beginning of the book.
