New book by Nobel winner Han Kang arrives in Brazil in 2025

One new work by South Korean writer Han Kang winner of 2024 Nobel Prize for Literature should arrive in Brazil in 2025.

The book arrives in the country by the publisher Todavia, responsible for the author’s previous publications, such as “Atos Humanes”, “O Livro Branco” and “A Vegetariana”.

Still without a defined title in Portuguese, the work is called “I do not bid farewell” in English (something like “I don’t say goodbye”, in free translation).

The 2021 novel is the author’s most recent work and tells the story of Gyeongha, a writer who receives a message from her friend Inseon asking her to come to her house, on Jeju Island, in the middle of a blizzard to feed her pet bird.

Inseon had an accident and was hospitalized, but her bird may not survive if left alone for more than a day. In addition to the challenge of getting home amid challenging weather conditions, Gyeongha will also need to confront the history of the island and her friend’s family, marked by one of the worst massacres Korea has ever experienced in 1948.

Who is Han Kang, winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize for Literature?

Han Kang was announced this Thursday (10) as the winner of this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature. Born in 1970 in the South Korean city of Gwangju, she is the daughter of novelist Han Seung-won and moved to Seoul at age nine.

She studied Korean literature at Yonsei University and began her literary career in 1993, publishing a series of poems in the magazine “Literature and Society”. In 1994, he won the Seoul Shinmun Spring Literary Competition with his short story “The Scarlet Anchor ” and, the following year, he made his prose debut with the collection of short stories “Yeosu’s love “.

His work often presents female protagonists who feel isolated or at odds with South Korea’s strict social norms.
