New Chrome settings reduce memory and battery usage. How to turn it on

Google is constantly optimizing the Chrome browser to make it less power hungry. The search giant talked about two new features in the desktop version of the program, which allow you to save RAM on your computer and laptop battery power. Both are designed to make web browsing faster and smoother.

The Memory Saver function frees the computer’s RAM from inactive tabs. In this case, they are frozen, after which they go into sleep mode, and the corresponding icon appears in the address bar. What’s more, Chrome will even show you how much memory has been saved. The function will be most useful for those users who are used to opening many tabs at the same time, especially with videos. Memory Saver automatically refreshes inactive tabs if the user decides to return to them.

In terms of power saving, now when the laptop’s battery drops below 20%, Chrome starts to process web pages accordingly. For example, it limits background activity, reduces or disables certain visual effects, animations, videos. At this point, an icon will be displayed on the Energy Saver menu bar to indicate that the Energy Saver function is in operation. Both features have been in Microsoft Edge for a long time, so Google has to play catch-up here.

The company says that Memory Saver and Energy Saver are in the browser settings, and users have full control over them. Innovations are available in the latest version of Chrome, so it’s worth updating.
