A new cold wave hits the South, Southeast and Center-West regions of Brazil this week, after the arrival of a mass of polar air in the country. Associated with the effects of an extratropical cyclone, the cold front drops temperatures and can generate snow, frost and the so-called “freezing rain”. Capitals such as São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Goiânia, Brasília, Campo Grande and Cuiabá should register temperatures below 10°C.
The intense cold in autumn raises concerns about the impacts of bad weather on agricultural production and reinforces the alert of experts for the increase in the frequency of extreme weather events amid the effects of global warming on the environment.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Evandro Cini presents an overview of the effects of this new wave of cold across the country. To describe the factors that contributed to the formation of this polar air mass and its possible effects, the meteorologist Josélia Pegorim, from Climatempo, and the researcher Humberto Barbosa, professor at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences at Ufal (Federal University of Alagoas) participated in this episode. ).
