New Covid-19 case record in Romania as well

The number of new coronavirus cases reached a new record in Romania with 40,018 infections in 24 hours, government data showed today, while hospitalizations are increasing as the country lags behind in vaccinations.

Romania is the second country in Europe with the least vaccinated population, after Bulgaria. Only 41% of the population is fully vaccinated, which reflects distrust of state institutions and poor vaccination education.

Yesterday, Monday, there were 903 patients with Covid-19 in intensive care units across the country, 84% of whom are not vaccinated, according to official data.

While the number of hospitalizations is rising, it is still well below the levels recorded at the peak of the previous wave of pandemics in October and November, when hospitals were saturated and Romania was first on the world list of deaths from new coronavirus per million inhabitants.

Ninety-five people have died from the virus in the last 24 hours. The pandemic has claimed the lives of 60,122 people in this country of 20 million inhabitants.

As of today, Romania has lifted the requirement for travelers to be quarantined if they are vaccinated, have proof that they have recovered from Covid-19 or can provide a negative test result, no matter where they come from.
