For “intentional degradation” of the Treaty of Lausanne by Greece, the Recep Tayyip Erdogan at his statement on the completion of 99 years since its signatureeven raising the issue of the Turkish minority in our country.
“Today we celebrate the 99th anniversary of the signing of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, one of the founding documents of the Republic of Turkey.
With the Treaty of Lausanne our land borders were drawn, the capitulations were abolished, the rights of the Turkish minority that remained in Greece were secured and the civilian status of the Greek islands near our shores was confirmed. Turkey is scrupulously monitoring the observance of the Treaty of Lausanne 99 years after its signing”, the Turkish president initially stated and continued:
“However, lately, the terms recorded in the Treaty, especially the rights of the Turkish minority, have been ignored or deliberately downgraded by Greece. It is not possible for our country to accept this situation, which is not compatible with good neighborly relations and compliance with the Treaty.
Our country is determined to make every effort to establish lasting peace and tranquility in the region of and for the protection of the rights of our beloved nation”.
In closing, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the following: “As Turkey takes steady steps towards 2023, its 100th anniversary Peace Treaty of Lausanne and our Republic, also strengthens its active position in regional and global issues. On the 99th anniversary of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, I honor the memory of the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal, his comrades-in-arms and our martyrs, and I remember our veterans with respect and gratitude.”
