The dates for Ecuador’s early general elections, to choose the new president and to fill the National Assembly, were officially announced this Thursday (18). The election will take place on August 20, while a presidential second round event is scheduled for October 15th. The information was given this morning by the president of the Electoral Council of Ecuador (CNE), Diana Atamaint, in an interview with Teleamazonas.
The election will also include voting to fill seats in the National Assembly. The elections will be necessary after the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, decreed its dissolution, in an action known as “cross-death”.
The figure allows Lasso to govern by decree-laws of economic urgency while elections for president and legislators are held.
