New emoticons from Google adapt to day and night. They will appear in July

Google has redrawn emoticons from its branded catalog, making them more versatile, noticeable and authentic, and also showed emojis that adapt to the color theme of the system. Now it is not known whether the changes in absolute each emoji have affected – the company in its blog showed only some emoticons redrawn, and not the most popular ones.

One of the main principles that guided the designers is versatility – if earlier the emoji correspondence was as narrow as possible, now they are focused on covering the maximum number of related things. For example, a pie smiley – before it looked like only an American pumpkin dessert, but now it has become universal (it can be mistaken for any fruit, berry or meat pie).

In the era of the pandemic, Google could not pass by emoji with a medical mask on its face. This emoji came from Japan, where people regularly wore personal protective equipment even before the COVID-19 epidemic. Now he looks more “joyful” – with wide open, rather than sad, tired eyes.

We should also note the emergence of responsive emoticons that change design depending on the light or dark theme on the device. One of these is the camping emoji – when the theme is light, the sun is displayed on the device, and when the theme is dark, the moon with stars is shown.

The updated emoji catalog will appear in Gmail, YouTube and Chat in July, and it will be preinstalled in Android 12. Google also announced that with the new version of the “green robot” all applications with support for the Appcompat library will automatically receive fresh emoji.

More examples of redrawn emoticons are available on the Google blog.
