New evidence on the coronavirus from the FBI: “It is possible that it was due to a leak from a laboratory in Wuhan”

“The FBI has already estimated for some time that the pandemic is most likely due to an incident in a laboratory in Wuhan”Ray said in an interview with Fox News.

The statements of the head of the FBI were made after the article published on Sunday (26/2) in the Wall Street Journal newspaper, according to which the US Department of Energy has estimated, with a low degree of certainty, that the pandemic is due to an inadvertent leak from a laboratory of Wuhan.

Four other US agencies, as well as a National Intelligence Panel, still believe covid-19 was caused by natural transmission, while two other agencies have yet to reach a conclusion, the Wall Street Journal reported.

White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby said Monday that the US government has not reached a definitive conclusion on the origin of the pandemic.

In the same interview Rey also accused China of trying to block the US investigation into the origins of the pandemic.

“The Chinese government (…) has done everything it can to try to oppose and complicate the work that we’ve been doing, the work that the US government and our close foreign partners” are conducting, the FBI chief said.

“It’s sad for the whole world,” he added, according to the Athens News Agency.

Beijing categorically denies these claims.

Her Foreign Ministry Chinawhen asked to comment on the Wall Street Journal article, referred to the World Health Organization report which states that the pandemic resulted from the natural transmission of the coronavirus and not from a laboratory leak.
