New explosions recorded in Kiev region

Two very large explosions lit up the night sky southwest of Kievcapital of Ukraineon Sunday morning (27) – approximately 1 am local time. Follow live coverage of the conflict.

The explosions appeared to have occurred around Vasylkil, about 30 kilometers south of Kiev. The city has a large military airfield and several fuel tanks.

The area was the scene of intense fighting on Friday night, according to Ukrainian officials. The night sky lit up for several minutes.

A fire in an oil storage area was also seen at Vasylkiv Air Base, which is southwest of Kiev. THE CNN verified a video of the fire in the storage area of Petroleum southwest of the main airbase runway.

Previously, the two large explosions were seen around Vasylkiv, about 30 kilometers, or about 18 miles, south of Kiev. The city has several fuel tanks.

The area was the scene of intense fighting on Friday night (25), according to Ukrainian officials. After the explosions in Vasylkiv, the city’s mayor, Natalia Balasynovych, recorded a Facebook message for residents.

“You can see what is happening, you can see the fire – unfortunately, this is the oil deposit in Kriachky village. The enemy wants to destroy everything around, but he will not succeed. You saw that during the day there was heavy bombardment of ballistic missiles. Our airfield was also bombed, but we managed it, it is under Ukrainian control,” he says.

“The night will be difficult here, as in Kiev, but we will stand firm and win, because God is with us,” said Balasynovych.

After months of military escalation and intemperance on the Ukrainian border, Russia attacked the Eastern European country. At dawn this Thursday (24), Russian forces began to bomb several regions of the country – follow the repercussion live on CNN.

What was seen in the following hours, however, was an attack on almost the entire Ukrainian territory, with explosions in several cities, including the capital Kiev.

According to Ukrainian officials, dozens of deaths have been confirmed in the armies of both countries.
