New film starring Lily Gladstone, “The Rite of the Dance” arrives on streaming

The film “The Rite of Dance” starring the Oscar-nominated actress Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), arrived on AppleTV+ this Friday (28).

In the plot, the indigenous actress plays Jax, who has been taking care of her niece Roki on the Seneca-Cayuga Indian Reservation in Oklahoma since her sister’s disappearance. At risk of losing custody to the young woman’s grandfather, she travels with her niece in search of clues to find her sister in time for the powwow, the traditional gathering of indigenous peoples of North America.

What begins as a quest gradually becomes a deeper investigation into the complexities and contradictions of indigenous women living in a colonized world and at the mercy of a flawed judicial system.

Names like Isabel Deroy-Olson , Ryan Begay , Crystle Lightning , Audrey Wasilewski It is Shea Whigham also make up the cast.

The direction is Erica Tremblay who returns to work with Gladstone after “Little Chief” released in 2019.
