The launch was initially scheduled for the early hours of Friday (10), but was postponed due to local maritime conditions.
Created by Jeff Bezos’ company in an attempt to rival the dominance of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, the giant rocket will take off from Launch Complex 36 at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, in Florida, USA.
According to the company, its main objective in this first mission, called NG-1, is to reach Earth’s orbit safely.
New Glenn will also carry a payload on the flight: the Blue Ring Pathfinder, a “demonstrator” that will test the technology needed for the Blue Ring spacecraft under development — which intends to serve as a kind of space ride vehicle, taking satellites into orbit deeper when necessary. The equipment will test the ship’s main flight, ground and operational capabilities.
Like SpaceX, Blue Origin also intends to reuse its rocket’s first stage booster and will attempt to guide it back to a safe landing on an offshore platform – named Jacklyn after Bezos’ mother – minutes after launch. take-off.
