Next week, the “National Identity Card” (CIN) will begin to be issued. The new document will adopt the CPF number as a general, unique and valid registration for all of Brazil.
“The first cards will be issued in Rio Grande do Sul, starting on July 26th. In the following days, the civil identification agencies in Acre, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Minas Gerais and Paraná will follow. There is still no forecast of issuance in the other states”, informed the Federal Revenue, in a statement.
According to the Revenue, the CIN will be issued, at this time, only to citizens who have updated information on the CPF.
“Citizens who do not have or have incorrect information on the CPF may use the remote service channels of the Federal Revenue Service to resolve their situation”, he said.
Subsequently, the civil identification agencies themselves will update the CPF and make new registrations.
National ID card was launched in February
In a ceremony held on February 23 in Brasília, the federal government launched the National Identity Card. The ceremony was attended by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The main objective of the new document will be to unify the identity card in all Brazilian states and in the Federal District.
Check out the changes below:
unique registration number
The new document model adopted by the government will have the CPF as a unique registration number. Thus, the identification will be the same throughout the country.
Currently, in case of need for a new issue in another state, the citizen receives a new registration number. In the old model, it would be possible to have up to 27 ID numbers.
digitization
The National Identity Card will have a physical and virtual version, in addition to allowing verification by QR Code, even without the use of the internet.
international document
Another novelty is that the national identity card will have an international standard, allowing travelers to use it outside the country. The document will have a MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) code, the same code issued in passports.
What is the reason for the changes?
According to the government, the novelties seek to modernize the country and reduce fraud, especially through the unification of the identity number.
