Piraeus Bank was awarded for another year by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), under the Trade Facilitation Program, while receiving all possible distinctions of this program. Specifically, it won the awards of “Most Active Issuing Bank in Greece in 2021”, “Most Active Issuing Bank in 2021 – Green Trade” and “Deal of the Year in 2021 – Green Trade”.

These distinctions highlight the commitment and consistency with which Piraeus Bank aligns its services and products with the Principles of Responsible Banking, while at the same time confirming the Bank’s emphasis on Trade Finance, which is an important tool for strengthening extroversion of Greek companies and the promotion of the adoption of the criteria of Environment, Social Cohesion and Governance (ESG) by companies.

Piraeus Bank supported the most Trade Finance transactions under the EBRD Trade Facilitation Program and was recognized as the most active Bank in Greece, receiving the “Most Active Issuing Bank in Greece in 2021” award.

At the same time, with the “Most Active Issuing Bank in 2021 – Green Trade” award, it took first place, out of a total of more than 100 Banks worldwide participating in the Program, to support Trade Finance transactions related to environmentally friendly investment projects. It is indicative that, according to the EBRD calculations, the implementation of these investment plans had a positive environmental footprint, allowing the reduction of CO2 emissions corresponding to the annual withdrawal of 1,000 cars from the streets of Athens.

In addition, Piraeus Bank received the “Deal of the Year in Green Trade” award, for the transaction facility that concerned a Greek company investing in Cyprus in Renewable Energy Sources.

Referring to the award, Mr. Thanos Vlachopoulos, General Manager, Head of Corporate Banking & Products of Piraeus Bank said: “This important recognition of the leading position of Piraeus Bank in the Greek market by the EBRD highlights of Greek companies and our commitment to the Principles of Responsible Banking, supporting sustainable entrepreneurship, at the same time, this distinction confirms once again the high level of Trade Finance solutions offered and experience and know-how of our executives, meet the needs of Greek companies in an ever-changing environment “.
