New iPad Air unveiled with Apple M1, fast USB-C connector and 5G support

As expected, the all-new iPad Air was announced at today’s Apple event, still sitting between the cheap iPad and the more expensive iPad Pro models.

The iPad Air is based on the Apple M1 SoC and has 5G support (with eSIM), but the base model, as usual, only supports Wi-Fi. Other updates to iPad Air include a new ultra-wide front camera with Center Stage, which automatically keeps you in view as you move and notices when others join you by seamlessly zooming in. All iPads now support this feature.

On the back is a 12-megapixel camera that hasn’t changed from the previous generation iPad Air. However, the USB-C port is twice as fast, delivering data transfer rates up to 10Gbps. The screen is still a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a brightness of 500 cd/m2True Tone support and anti-reflective coating.

iPad Air is preloaded with iPadOS 15.4. This software version will be available as an over-the-air update for other iPads next week. With the included universal control feature, you can work with one mouse and keyboard on multiple Macs and iPads without any additional settings – you can even drag and drop windows and shortcuts between devices.

The new tablet features a completely recycled aluminum chassis, 100% recycled tin in the motherboard solder, and 100% recycled rare earth elements in the chassis and sound magnets.

The new iPad Air will be available starting at $600 for the 64GB version. The Wi-Fi + 5G model starts at $750. It will be available for pre-order in 29 countries and regions this Friday and will be released on March 18th.
