The building, according to Israeli Armed Forces, hosted observatories, surveillance equipment and improvised explosive mechanisms, which were placed by Hamas fighters with the aim of monitoring and attacking Israeli units during hostilities. The IDFs emphasize that the operation was conducted with guided ammunition and aerial surveillance, with the aim of limiting losses to a civilian population.
