New monkeypox cases raise questions about prevention and treatment

New cases of monkeypox have now been identified in more than 20 countries in different parts of the world, including Europe and the Americas. The disease was already considered an endemic viral infection in parts of West and Central Africa.

In some of the countries where the new cases have been reported, authorities have already announced measures to try to contain the spread of the disease. Measures range from the use of smallpox vaccines to mandatory quarantine.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Evandro Cini presents a balance of doubts and concerns about the new outbreaks of smallpox in monkeys. To describe the symptoms, risks, prevention actions and treatment of the disease, the epidemiologist Julio Croda, a researcher at Fiocruz, and the doctor Estevão Urbano, president of the Minas Gerais Society of Infectious Diseases, participate in this episode.
