New OS for Honor smartphones will be “different and better”

After the launch of the mobile beta version of the HarmonyOS operating system (HongmengOS in China), many wondered if the Huawei-branded Honor company would use HarmonyOS in its smartphones.

Speaking to the media after the presentation of the Honor V40, Honor CEO Zhao Ming answered this question. He stated that everything depends on the progress that the developers of HarmonyOS make. Despite being a division of Huawei in the past, Honor is now an independent company that intends to follow the rules of business cooperation.

Zhao Ming made another interesting statement, in which he noted that the upcoming open source operating system for Honor smartphones will be “different and better.” However, he did not go into details on this matter. So far, it remains only to make assumptions about what we are talking about. Whether Honor is preparing its own operating system, is it planning to create a new shell based on Android or optimize HarmonyOS for its smartphones.

Last year, Huawei introduced HarmonyOS 2.0, which supports smartphones. Beta testing started in December, and Huawei has confirmed that the company will launch smartphones based on the new operating system in 2021.
