New owner of McDonald’s in Russia replaces Big Mac with Big Hit

Hungry for Big Macs since McDonald’s closed its stores in Russia in March, Russians will know from next year an alternative to the successor of the fast-food chain — the “Big Hit”.

Russian fast-food chain Vkusno & tochka, or “Tasty and that’s it,” said on Monday that the burger, complete with a new signature sauce, will be available from February. The company also stated that it will provide a product similar to McLanche Feliz.

McDonald’s closed its restaurants in Russia amid the departures of other Western companies from the country shortly after Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in February. The chain sold operations to a local licensee, Alexander Govor, who unveiled the new brand in June.

Vkusno & tochka Chief Executive Oleg Paroev said the company has overcome supply chain issues and is increasing its share in a market traditionally dominated by foreign chains.

There are restrictions on what colors and products Vkusno & tochka can use. The company is also no longer allowed to serve Big Macs or use McDonald’s sauce, Paroev explained.

“It (Big Hit) has its own sauce and a slightly different composition, a different arrangement of ingredients, but in terms of quality and taste it is very good,” Paroev said.

“We hope that Russian consumers will appreciate Big Hit and that it will become a symbol of Vkusno & tochka as much as the Big Mac is a symbol of McDonald’s.
