New Putin-Merkel telephone conversation on EU relations with Belarus

The Kremlin statement said “the debate on the situation on Belarus’ border with the European Union has continued. The importance of resolving the acute immigration crisis as soon as possible in accordance with international humanitarian law has been reaffirmed.”

The Kremlin said in a statement that the Russian leader was in favor of a beneficial resumption of contacts between the EU countries and Belarus with a view to resolving the issue.

Also in talks with Merkel, the Russian president criticized Ukraine for its unconstructive stance on the conflict in the eastern part of the country, where government troops are fighting pro-Russian separatists, using drones and dynamic methods. “The Russian president has drawn attention to Kiev’s non-constructive policy, which is increasingly emphasizing dynamic methods, using, inter alia, in violation of the measures provided for in the Minsk agreements,” the statement said.
