New rules for electronic tolls on highways are approved by Contran

The National Traffic Council (Contran) The deadline for paying the electronic toll fee has been increased, without the driver being fined . The payment deadline increases from 15 to 30 days. The measure is part of the new rules for the implementation of electronic tolls – also known as “free flow” – this Monday (14).

Among the approved changes is the centralization of data on a national platform, with the aim of facilitating toll collection and notification to drivers. It is also planned to create signs and symbols to identify the electronic billing system.

Contran also defined a new tariff, in which drivers only pay for the sections traveled. Currently, charges are made regardless of the mileage used, which harms drivers who live close to toll plazas.

The approved proposal establishes the implementation of the system throughout the national territory and provides for vehicle identification and classification formats, as well as means of notification and payment via Digital Traffic Card.

Electronic tolls allow drivers to pass through toll collection points without having to stop. According to the Ministry of Transport, the changes approved this Monday (14) contribute to greater traffic fluidity and a reduction in carbon emissions.

Free flow enables digital verification of the license plate, vehicle image, vehicle classification and also through the use of a tag (equipment with radio frequency technology).

The new rules should be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette of the Union.
