New Russian airstrike in Kiev – 66,000 Ukrainian military dead during counterattack

An alert was sounded early Wednesday morning (6/9) in air defense systems that were activated early in the morning to repel an airstrike by of Russia in its capital Ukrainianthe military command of Kyiv announced via Telegram.

Reuters reporters reported hearing explosions.

Almost the entire Ukrainian territory was put on alert for airstrikes at around 05:50 (local and Greek time).

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned via Telegram that Russian missiles were headed for the city.

Saigu: 66,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed during counterattack

The Minister of Defense of Russia Sergey Saigu pointed out on Tuesday that the Ukrainian army has apparently suffered 66,000 casualties since its long-awaited counter-offensive began some three months ago to recapture territory seized by Russian forces.

He also stated, as reported by the Athens News Agency, that Ukraine has lost around 7,600 weapon systems and added that “in none of the directions of the attack did the Ukrainian armed forces achieve their objective”.

The numbers given by the Russian Defense Minister cannot be independently verified.

Kiev, on the other hand, talks about the breakdown of the first line of defense of the Russian forces in Zaporizhia, in addition to small territorial gains in the south, and now characterizes its counterattack as promising.
