Xiaomi has several Android TV boxes in its arsenal, ranging from the basic Mi Box to the more affordable Mi TV Stick. Back in September this year, an updated version of the “stick” was spotted in the FCC database, and now the novelty has appeared on the company’s official website. After Xiaomi decided to ditch the Mi brand in its product names, the new device was named Xiaomi TV Stick 4K.
The set-top box looks exactly the same as in the images at the FCC. The device itself is made in the form factor of a flash drive, it is connected directly to the TV via HDMI. Included is a remote control with two extra buttons to launch Prime Video and Netflix. There is also a separate button for calling the Google Assistant voice assistant.
The main change is support for 4K content playback, which puts the device on par with the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and Chromecast with Google TV. In addition, the box runs Android TV 11 and provides hardware decoding for AV1 and VP9. Xiaomi did not specify which chipset model is used in the TV Stick 4K, the description only says “quad-core Cortex-A35”, which is the best match for Amlogic S905Y4.

Despite important updates, the new console has some drawbacks compared to the previous model. Xiaomi has removed the SD card slot and the additional USB port, so there is no way to expand the internal storage in this way. It is not yet clear when the Xiaomi TV Stick 4K will go on sale. Its cost, presumably, will be at the level of the original model, that is, approximately $ 55.
