A Canadian Coast Guard official confirmed on Wednesday that one of their ships with “advanced deep sonar” had joined the search for the missing Titanic submersible and said they should keep looking until the lost vessel is found.
“The ship with the advanced deep sonar is in place now and so we have to remain optimistic. We have to keep working until we find the submersible. Again, I am very aware of how stressful and worrying this is for the families and of course the submersible team,” Joyce Murray, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard, said Wednesday at a press conference. in Ottawa.
“There were sounds that were picked up, and that just means we’re going to continue to bend and figure out where the submersible is and how it can be brought to the surface,” added Murray.
Three more Canadian vessels arrived at the wreck site on Wednesday morning – the Skandi Vinland and Atlantic Merlin, which are offshore supply vessels, and the Canadian Coast Guard’s John Cabot. The latter vessel has “side scanning capabilities and is conducting search patterns” alongside the others, according to the US Coast Guard.
The ships are taking equipment and highly specialized personnel to the site, which is 685 km southeast of Newfoundland.
