New Study Questions Shroud of Turin’s Authenticity – Why It’s Not Thought to Impress Christ’s Body

A new study questions the possibility that the Shroud of Turin came from the head of Jesus Christ, pointing out that it is doubtful that the Shroud ever came into contact with his body. The shroud, which bears a faint impression of a body and face, is believed by many to be the same cloth used to encase Christ’s body after his crucifixion. However, its documented history only begins in the mid-14th century and has been a source of skepticism ever since, with many dismissing it as a medieval hoax. Cicero Moraes, author of the new study, found that the imprint on the shroud could not have been created by a three-dimensional human body, but perhaps came from a shallow carving in a relief. To reach this conclusion, Moraes created a virtual simulation in which the fabric was placed on a body, trying to recreate the famous shroud.
