New tragic record in Brazil with 1,910 deaths and over 70,000 cases in 24 hours

The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced today for the second consecutive day a new tragic record of 1,910 deaths due to Covid-19 within 24 hours, while the same period of cases from SARS-CoV-2 reached 71,704, amid a new outbreak of the pandemic .

The Latin American country of 212 million people has officially recorded nearly 260,000 deaths from Covid-19 out of a total of 10.7 million new coronavirus infections since the beginning of the pandemic.

Brazil continues to rank second in the world in terms of the number of pandemic victims, behind the United States, and third in the number of cases.

Mexico: 857 deaths and almost 7,800 cases in 24 hours

The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that in the previous 24 hours another 857 patients with COVID-19 succumbed, while 7,793 infections from SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in the country of about 126 million people has so far reached 188,044 deaths out of a total of 2,104,987 infections.

The third-highest rate of the new coronavirus pandemic on the planet in absolute terms is likely to be underestimated, as Mexican government officials have repeatedly pointed out in the course of the health crisis that in fact the death toll and cases are probably much higher than officially recorded.

Colombia: More than 60,000 deaths, almost 2.3 million cases

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in Colombia exceeded 60,000 on Wednesday, the health ministry said, just 24 hours before a year after it struck the Latin American country on March 6, 2020.

Turkey: More than 11,500 new cases in the country

Turkey registered 11,520 new Covid-19 cases today, according to the country’s Health Ministry, while authorities eased restrictions on the new coronavirus.

Sixty-five people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 28,771.

The total number of cases recorded since the beginning of the pandemic is 2,734,835.

On Monday night, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan lifted weekend lockout in low- and medium-risk cities and reduced Sunday lockdown in high-risk cities in a process he called “controlled evacuation.”

On Tuesday, Turkish restaurants reopened and many children returned to school as the measures were relaxed, but infections increased, raising concerns in the country’s medical association. Turkey later announced the highest number of new cases since January 7th, at almost 12,000.

Lithuania: More than 200,000 cases, 3,281 deaths

Israel: Nearly 4,200 cases and 16 deaths in 24 hours

The Israeli Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that 4,173 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected with the new coronavirus in the country to 788,869.

A further 16 deaths from COVID-19 patients during the same period increased the pandemic toll to 5,802 deaths to date.

The number of critically ill patients increased to 717 (+12 from the previous one) from the total of 1,170 people admitted to hospitals.

The percentage of the population that has received at least the first dose of the new coronavirus vaccine in Israel is now 51.9% – more than 4.83 million have been vaccinated – as of December 20, 2020.
