The Russian ambassador to USAAnatoly Antonov, commented on the new American sanctions and declared that they constitute an attack on the core of Russian interests.
However, he made it clear that Moscow will protect its interests in order to fulfill its goals.
It is noted that earlier the USA announced sweeping new sanctionsmarking the two-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, targeting more than 500 individuals and entities.
The measures concern, among others, the Mir payment system, Russian financial institutions and the defense industry, future energy production, attempted sanctions circumvention and other areas. They also include officials connected to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, the finance and foreign ministries said.
