New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro will have decentralized celebrations, details secretary

After deciding that it would not change plans despite confirmation of a case of the Ômicron variant in the city, the city announced that it had secured sponsorship for the celebration.

At the Thursday press conference, Paes also reaffirmed that the municipality’s efforts to organize the event will be made in order to avoid the formation of agglomerations.

In an interview with CNN, the municipal secretary of Public Order of Rio de Janeiro, Brenno Carnevale, explained that the turnaround in Rio de Janeiro will be organized with the decentralization of the celebrations.

“Copacabana will feature fireworks, but other points will also have fireworks. We will have fireworks in the south, east, north of the city. This will ensure that people have commemoration points close to their homes”, he said.

The secretary also informs that public transport will also not work at special hours so as not to encourage the concentration of people in Copacabana.

In addition, the entry and circulation of chartered vehicles will be prohibited from 00:00 on December 30th.
