Parking on the edge of Copacabana, in Rio, will not be allowed on the last day of 2021. The blockade will take place on the night of December 30th and will last until January 1st, 2022. The objective is to make access difficult for a public very big during the New Year.
CET do Rio plans to close the lanes for vehicles, but at reduced times. The details of the operation will be defined in a meeting this Thursday (9), but the idea is to treat the last day of the year as a “normal day”. Therefore, there should not be the traditional special scheme for public transport, with extension of the subway opening hours, for example.
The Scientific Committee that advises the decisions of Governor Cláudio Castro approved the fireworks display for New Year’s Eve 2022 on Wednesday (8). The information has been confirmed to CNN Brasil by sources linked to the State Government. However, the group’s health experts recommended that public musical performances not be held and that municipalities draw up a plan to avoid crowding. Hence the decision to limit the audience present at the Orla de Copacabana.
The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, called today a press conference to discuss the details of planning for New Year’s Eve 2022, after many comings and goings about the celebration of the party.
Last Saturday (4), Paes even announced the cancellation of New Year’s Eve in the city. Governor Cláudio Castro, then, said that the decision had not been taken. On Monday (6), the mayor took a step back and said that fireworks were not out of the question. The shows, which, according to the notice, would take place on ten stages throughout the city, were cancelled.
