She disappeared on Saturday while spending a few days camping with her parents in Moreau Lake State Park in New York state. Little Charlotte Sena, 9 years old, had been kidnapped and was found safe and sound: the man who stole her from her family has been arrested.
Charlotte had gone to do a bike ride with family around dinner time, then she wanted to do one more by herself, but she never came back. Her mother reported her missing around 6.45pm, after Charlotte Sena’s bicycle was found.
In the early hours of Monday, the little girl’s parents received a ransom note in the mailbox at home. The kidnapper had brought it directly: “He literally approached the box, taking it for granted that the Sena were not at home”, explained the investigators. In fact, Charlotte’s parents were still at the campsite looking for the little girl, but theThe family’s home was monitored by the police of state.
Officers scanned the document for fingerprints and searched law enforcement databases to find a match. On the second attempt, they were able to identify the man who had brought the note, because his fingerprints were in their database for a drunk driving accident in 1999: 47-year-old Craig Nelson Ross, Jr.
Investigators reached him in the camper where he lives and found Charlotte hiding in a locker. “She immediately understood that she would be saved, that she was in safe hands,” said the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, at a press conference. Charlotte appeared to be in good health, but she was still taken to hospital for routine checks. Shortly thereafter, she returned to the arms of her parents. Craig Nelson Ross Jr. was arrested on suspicion of first-degree kidnapping and is being held in the Saratoga County Jail without the possibility of bail.
