New York City is expected to see snow after two years this weekend

The historic two-year absence of snow in her city New York likely to end this weekend with the arrival of a storm system, which is expected in the US's most populous city and along the East Coast during today.

The city's 8.5 million residents have seen more than 2.54 centimeters of snow in Central Park since February 13, 2022 – a record 692 days. The approaching low is expected to bring snowfall with up to 3 inches (7.6 cm) of snow in some parts of the city, the National Weather Service said.

The storm could bring more snowfall than last winter in New York City, when just 5.84 centimeters of snow fell, the least on record.

In a city where snowfalls of more than 30cm are not uncommon – at least until recently – New Yorkers are not expected to face problems with snow this weekend, as reported by Reuters and relayed by the Athens Agency.

Experts say the lack of snow in New York is yet another indication of how climate change is affecting weather around the world. The US Southwest, for example, experienced a prolonged heatwave last summer.
