Can you imagine receiving your salary in cryptocurrencies? Eric Adams, mayor-elect of New York, yes. The politician said this Thursday (4), by Twitter, which will collect your first three bitcoin payments.

“In New York, we always think big. Therefore, I will receive my first three paychecks in bitcoin when I become mayor”, published Adams, who takes office in January 2022.

“New York City will be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other innovative and growing industries. Just wait!” he added.

Democrat Eric Adams was elected, on Tuesday (2), the 110th mayor of New York City, according to a projection by CNN. He will be the second black man in the city’s history to hold the position.

The announcement of the pay in cryptocurrencies came after a bitcoin investor appealed to American politicians on social media to introduce the payment method. “Who will be the first American politician to receive his salary in bitcoin?” he wrote.

The Mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, answered the tweet saying he would accept the bonus in this way, and appointed Miami City Innovation and Technology Director Mike Sarasti to help.

Eric Adams then responded to his colleague and tripled the goal by stating that he would virtually receive not only the first bonus, but the next two as well.

“Touché! Congratulations on the election, I look forward to this friendly competition to make our respective cities a cryptographic capital!” replied the mayor of Miami.
