Following the first hybrid fashion week experiment last September, halfway between physical and digital shows, New York is once again preparing to present the novelties of the next season following very similar methods, but with some new features. Of course, the era when in the Big Apple you could breathe deeply the electric atmosphere of the fashion shows for almost 10 days seems light years away, but waiting for better times, designers and institutions do not give up, taking advantage of this – albeit particular – opportunity to make known the new collections of the big and emerging.
The calendar, unveiled only yesterday, is developing from 14 to 18 February and, as we could have guessed, most of the events will be held virtually on NYFW.com. With some significant exceptions.
In fact, some presentations and fashion shows will be held at the Spring Studios, the official headquarters of New York Fashion Week at 50 Varick Stree: to open the dance Jason Wu on Valentine’s Day, followed by two other physical shows – and spaced apart – on February 16, that of Rebecca Minkoff and new entry Justin Wesley, which will unveil its collection in a live presentation. Also for this edition of the fashion week, IMG continues to support Black in Fashion Council and the emerging talents of black fashion through showrooms in New York and Los Angeles.
Support for the new generation of creatives is one of the most interesting points of the new program included for the first time within theAmerican Collections Calendar: a new hyper-inclusive formula conceived by Tom Ford, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which also includes all the big Americans who will not present the new collections during the four official days: the Carolina Herrera and Coach fashion shows, for example, will be held on February 23, while Oscar de la Renta will present the new collection on March 2nd, followed by Altuzarra, Rick Owens and Thom Browne.
107 designers from 14 different countries will participate in New York Fashion Week (HERE the official calendar) some of which for the first time ever in collaboration with IMG: from Kitsuné House to Marrisa Wilson, passing through Studio Amelia, Theo, Tombogo and Victor de Souza. Although big names in American fashion such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors and Diane Von Furstenberg are not on the calendar, in addition to Jason Wu and Rebecca Minkoff, brands such as Veronica Beard, Alice + Olivia will also return. Tadashi Shoji and Badgley Mischka, but also Anna Sui, Monse and Christian Cowan. In addition to live streams on official platforms, a media partnership could not be missing to reach the audience of Generation Z: it will be TikTok to present exclusive content from the fashion shows, both live and recorded by IMG, distributing them through different channels.
