New York Mayor Eric Adams will meet with President-elect Donald Trump this Friday (17), according to a statement from the city.
Adams, who Trump said he would consider pardoning, was indicted in September on charges of bribery, corruption, wire fraud and soliciting and accepting donations from foreigners.
He pleaded not guilty and denied any wrongdoing.
“Mayor Adams has made clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and the new administration on behalf of New Yorkers — this partnership with the federal government is essential to the success of New York City,” said the deputy mayor of communications, Fabien Levy, in the statement.
The statement also points out that Trump and Adams will “discuss the priorities of New Yorkers” and that the mayor hopes to have a conversation about “how we can move our city and country forward.”
The president-elect, during a press conference last month, expressed that he believed Adams had been “treated quite unfairly” by prosecutors and promised to “look into” the case — and a possible pardon.
