The American tabloid newspaper New York Post claims it was hacked by an employee who posted articles and messages on Twitter calling for the assassination of President Joe Biden and other politicians.
“The New York Post was hacked” the newspaper itself reported after apparently regaining control of its Twitter account.
“The New York Post investigation shows that unauthorized actions were committed by an employee and we are taking the appropriate measures,” the conservative newspaper added in a statement sent to AFP and relayed by the Athens News Agency.
In the morning messages were posted on the NYP Twitter account urging people to assassinate Biden or New York Democratic Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. The posts were in the usual style of messages put up by the newspaper, which is owned by News Corp, the “empire» of billionaire Rupert Murdoch’s media.
A post with racist content against African-American New York City Mayor Eric Adams contained a hyperlink to an article with the same title, according to BuzzfeedNews reporter David Mack.
“The employee has been fired” the NYP assured, clarifying that it was immediately withdrawn the “reprehensible» content from its website and from its accounts on social media platforms.
