New York prohibits the sale of whipped cream to those under 21 years of age; they use it as a drug

In the state of New York, United States, the sale of cans of whipped cream to those under 21 years of age was prohibited as a preventive measure, since said product contains nitrous oxide and this could be used as a narcotic.

This law was approved and entered into force last year, but it only began to be applied on August 29, 2022. It is understood that if this rule is not complied with, businesses and supermarkets could pay fines of up to 260 dollars. However, these penalties could reach 500 dollars in case of recidivism.

Many of the users do not know why this restriction arose and have shared their opinions and photographs of the supermarket shelves on their social networks, where signs were placed notifying that customers must show their official identification to acquire the cans of whipped cream.

However, it is important to know that prolonged use of nitrogen oxide, known as laughing gas or laughing gas, can cause various health effects. This substance causes a feeling of uncontrollable joy, but it can also cause blood pressure to drop, as well as cause fainting, memory loss, psychosis and other harmful effects.

Democratic state senator Joseph Addabbo promoted the measure in the local Congress and clarified that the intention of the legislators was to control the sale of gas refill cartridges that make these types of cans work and not the fact of prohibiting the purchase of whipped cream itself by young people.

However, he defended the need to control the sale of these cans after receiving different complaints from consumers of whipped cream, since some were asked for their identification to acquire it.
