New York Skyscraper Offers Climbing More Than 100 Floors Above Ground

Nova York is one of the cities that most concentrates skyscrapers around the world and there is no denying that a good way to glimpse the metropolis is, without a doubt, in the heights. However, in addition to observation decks hundreds of meters above the ground, how about adding a dash of adrenaline and climbing the façade of one of the biggest buildings in the USA?

is what the 30 Hudson Yards can provide visitors. Located on Manhattan’s West Side, the 395 meter high building now offers the City Climb, a tour that comprises climbing the exterior of the skyscraper more than 100 floors above street level.

Accompanied by trained guides, small groups of up to 8 people traverse a series of outdoor platforms and stairs at the top of the building above the Edge, the highest outdoor viewing platform in the entire West. The brave are dressed in safety equipment and held by two cables connected to a cart that moves with the visitor.

The experience, which can last up to two hours, guarantees impressive views of the entire skyline of Nova York, in which “climbers” can still lean on the open edges of the building with no barriers in front.

Considered “the tallest open-air climbing of a building in the world”, the new attraction will go into operation from November 9th – one day after the planned reopening of US borders.

How does it work

After properly dressed in safety gear, visitors climb 32 steps from a base to a precipice, where they can look down on the street just below their feet at 362 meters high.

Climbers then climb 161 steps at an approximately 45-degree incline on the side of the top of the building until they reach a height of about 387 meters, where the brave have the opportunity to lean over and hover over a platform.

In all, according to official information, there are more than 370 steps throughout the experience, including ascent and descent.

O package cost is US$185 (approximately R$1,025.00 at the current price) which, in addition to City Climb, entitles you to the Edge platform and also a digitized photo.

The 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper is part of the Hudson Yards real estate development, a West Side project in Manhattan that encompasses the expansion of railway lines and the construction of commercial and residential buildings.

Sixth tallest building in all of New York, 30 Hudson Yards houses the Edge, which extends 80 feet from the 100th floor, and comprises a complete view of the city skyline.

The glass surrounding the platform slopes outwards, adding to the excitement, and street-facing glass floors are dotted around the area.

It is noteworthy that other observation points in the city have been opened recently, along with other classic sites. The most famous are the top-floor observatories of the Empire State Building, with an outdoor area on the 86th floor, and Top of The Rock, at Rockefeller Center, with views of Central Park on the 70th floor.

One World Trade Center recently opened an observatory high-tech on the 100th floor of the building, more than 380 meters from the ground, as well as One Vanderbilt, which inaugurated Summit One Vanderbilt, glass-filled attraction and outdoor vantage points on the top floors of the 427 meters of the building.
