The New York Times, citing anonymous sources in the American government, reported that US authorities are concerned about the placement of some Chinese mining farms in the country.

Currently, Chinese mining companies are represented in 12 states in the United States, with a particularly large presence in Texas. However, the authorities are most concerned about the Bit Origin site in Wyoming – it is located next to the Microsoft data center, which processes Pentagon data. There is also a military base with nuclear missiles nearby. Representatives of Microsoft even wrote to the relevant government committee about the possibility of “conducting full-scale exploration” from the territory of the mining company.

However, according to sources in the New York Times, intelligence agencies have been monitoring the mining company for months and have also taken all necessary measures to protect against possible intelligence. Bit Origin President Li Jiaming stressed that the location for the mining farm was chosen after reaching an agreement with a local energy company, and not because of its proximity to a Microsoft data center or missile base.

As former Department of Homeland Security Infrastructure Protection Secretary Brian Harrell noted, if Chinese mining companies work in concert, they could create “enormous strain on the power grid and wreak havoc.”

Recently, Bits.Media published a large-scale material about the state of the cryptocurrency industry in China.
