Police in New Zealand have identified the remains of two children found earlier this month in two suitcases sold at auction, but said they would not release them at the request of their families.
The authorities have decided not to release any information that could lead to the identity of the two children being revealed, explained Inspector Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua.
Police are still investigating those deaths.
The macabre discovery was made by a family two weeks ago who bought various items including two suitcases at an online auction from an Auckland warehouse.
As the police had explained, the children were between five and ten years old, with their remains having remained in the suitcases for some years. The family that found their remains is not connected to their deaths.
On Monday, police in Seoul, South Korea said they had identified a woman believed to be the mother of the two children. She arrived in South Korea in 2018 and doesn’t seem to have left the country since.
