New Zealand, the resignation of Jacinda Ardern: «I am human. I’ve run out of energy”

Jacinda Ardern announced that he will resign on February 7th. The New Zealand premier could not hold back tears during the press conference in which she explained the reasons for her decision.

The 42-year-old Labor Party official said she had been unable to find the energy to carry on. «To be prime minister, I gave all of myself, but it’s a role that also took away a lot from me. You can’t and shouldn’t do this job unless you have a full tank, plus some in reserve for those unforeseen challenges that inevitably arise.”

The premier explained: «Being prime minister has been the greatest honor of my life and I want to thank New Zealanders for the enormous privilege of leading the country for the last five and a half years. These have been the most fulfilling five and a half years of my life. I’m leaving because this privileged job also carries a great responsibility, that of knowing when you are the right person to lead the country and also when you are not. The time has come for me.”

Jacinda Ardern’s mandate began on October 26, 2017, when she was 37 years old: she was New Zealand’s youngest prime minister and the country’s third female prime minister. During her tenure her daughter was born which led to many international events. The next elections will be held on October 14 and Ardern assures that she will not leave for fear of losing at the polls. You speak of a personal choice: «I am human. We give as much as possible for as long as possible and then the time comes. And for me this is the moment. I would be doing New Zealanders a disservice if I continued». About her It is hoped that New Zealanders will remember her “as someone who always tried to be kind”.
