New Zealand’s CPI rises 1.4% annually in the fourth quarter, improving the expected 1%; NZD / USD returns to highs zone

The New Zealand Consumer Price Index grew by 1.4% y-o-y in the fourth quarter of 2020, equaling the third-quarter result and exceeding the expected 1%.

The quarter-on-quarter inflation fell two tenths, reaching the 0.5% compared to the previous 0.7%, but exceeding the 0% estimated by the market.

NZD / USD reaction

The Kiwi has reacted against the dollar with a rise of almost 25 pips that has returned it to levels above 0.7200. Specifically, the NZD / USD it has jumped towards 0.7221, standing very close to the 6-day highs reached in the European session at 0.7224.

At time of writing, the currency pair is trading above 0.7219, gaining 0.24% daily.
