NexPad went on sale. This gadget turns a smartphone into a tablet

Earlier this year, Nex Computer introduced an unusual gadget called the NexPad. It is essentially a portable external display that can be connected to smartphones, laptops and PCs. Almost 10 months after the announcement, the device went on sale.

As originally advertised, the NexPad costs $249 with $19 shipping. The manufacturer has not made any changes to its characteristics. The device is still equipped with a 12-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:9, its dimensions are 277 × 250 × 63 mm, and its weight is 736 g.

The special feature of NexPad is that it can turn an Android smartphone into a tablet. The connection is made via USB Type-C and using the desktop mode built into the operating system. At the bottom of the case there are several magnets for attaching a smartphone, which is securely held there in any position. The smartphone can also be used as a touch pad or secondary screen. Since NexPad weighs quite a lot (about 1 kg) together with mobile devices, it is equipped with a stand for convenient placement on a table or any other surface.

In addition to the USB-C port, the gadget has two USB 3.1 Type-C ports with pass-through charging, mini HDMI 2.0 and USB 2.0 Type-C for data transfer. NexPad can serve as an additional display for a laptop. The picture below shows what it looks like – the panel is attached with magnets to the top of the laptop.

The device is currently available for purchase in the US and Canada. Detailed information is available on the official website of Nex Computer.
