NFT with Vitalik Buterin sold for $400,000

The EthBoy non-fungible token (NFT) featuring Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin sold on the secondary market for $400,000.

A few years ago, EthBoy was created by artists Trevor Jones and Allota Mani. It features an image of Vitalik Buterin dressed as a jester.

In November 2020, a piece of digital art sold at auction for 260 ETH, when the cost of 1 ETH was approximately $540 according to data CoinGecko. Thus, the buyer paid about $140,000 for the NFT.

Three years later, collectors became interested in EthBoy again. The purchase price was 200 ETH or approximately $400,000 at the time of writing, which is a new price record for this NFT.

According to Etherscan, the new owner of the NFT has decided to pay a royalty of 10%. According to the conditions, it will be received not only by the authors, but also by the first owner MaxStealthwho bought EthBoy in 2020.

It is worth adding that payment of royalties on the OpenSea trading platform is not mandatory – it previously announced the abandonment of the royalty function and added a commission of 0.5%. Following the announcement, the Rarible marketplace stopped supporting OpenSea orders.

In November 2023, NFT trading volume reached its highest level since late August.
