Niall Horan: ‘I owe everything to One Direction’

We have seen his face change over more than ten years. A little boy with blond hair, who in 2010 took the stage dthe X Factor Uk for a singing experiment, today he is a successful soloist. Niall Horanformer member of the English band one directionhas just released the new single Heaven and awaits the release of the album, due out on June 9th. In this waiting time between one piece and another one looks back with immense gratitude. And he reveals his particular passion for Italian fans.

The Show it will be his new album. What are your expectations?
«Obviously the first place in the music charts (laughs, ed.). I can’t wait for the record to be out, I finished it in November last year so now I’m ready to travel the world and see my fans. Especially the Italian ones, they are my favorites».

How come?
“You are so passionate.”

What is the album about?
«He talks a lot about me, about my thoughts, about my lifestyle. It’s very introspective because I wrote it during the pandemic. What is missing is the connection with people, which will come with the concerts».

Do you remember the moment the record was born?
«One evening I kept wandering around the house bored, I sat down at the piano and started writing a song. If it weren’t for that song, the album wouldn’t exist. I needed that track to move forward, to unlock the creative process. She gave me the strength to continue writing and defined the whole mood of the record ».

That is to say?
“You will understand. It’s short, it’s only ten tracks but the concept is very strong. I love each song for different reasons. Until it’s out I can’t say much but Heaven (the single released in February, ed.) is definitely one of my favorite pieces».

If you had to choose one thing not to do in your career, what would it be?
“Absolutely none. If I changed anything, I wouldn’t redo the mistakes I made and I wouldn’t learn anything. In the end, these 13 years have been a bomb”.

How does it feel to be still associated with One Direction?
“That’s okay. I wouldn’t be where I am right now without them. In the end it’s just a flattery, we were one of the most famous bands of that moment. A crazy time: stadiums, whole albums number one, everyone who knows what you’re doing. So welcome to One Direction. Now they allow me to write and sing the music I love.”

In the next tours Are there any dates in Italy?
«We are still defining the stages, but the concerts I have done in Italy have been the best, so I can’t wait to bring home new Italian memories. It’s a magical country.”

What is your favorite thing to do on tour?
“Eat. Without a doubt the best hobby. We travel the countries of the world and taste a thousand different foods. Especially when the tour is in Europe. You go to sleep in Spain and you wake up in Italy».

Speaking of Europe: she is Irish. What is there of Ireland in her music?
“Everything, probably. The Celtic roots, the traditional part, the songwriting. Finally, when I sit down at the piano and sing, all that is Irish in me comes out.’

Do you believe that talent shows in TV are still a good opportunity to be a singer?
“One hundred percent. I’m currently judging The Voice and have met some incredible talent. So young and so good at 15 or 16. Wow».
