In fact, according to a relative, she revealed that both Chamorro’s brother Pedro Joaquin and three former employees of the Violeta Barrio de Chamorro Foundation (FVBCH) were found guilty.

“Everyone found guilty (…) on March 21 will announce the sentence,” Olama Ortado, Cristiana Chamorro’s niece, told AFP.

Christiana Chamorro, 68, was the head of this foundation for promoting and defending freedom of the press and freedom of expression. But according to the prosecution, the foundation was used to receive money from abroad intended to destabilize the government of Daniel Ortega and his vice president and wife Rosario Mourinho.

Cristiana Chamorro, who has been under house arrest since June 2, 2021, was the favorite in the polls to face Daniel Ortega in the November presidential election. She is the daughter of former president Violeta Barrio de Chamorro (1990-1997), who in 1990 had defeated Ortega at the polls.
