Niccolò’s family members followed the trial in Girona. Mom cried as she told about the phone call she received on the night of the murder. “At 5 am on August 12, 2017, the phone call came informing us that our son was ill. We set out for Spain. In the classroom he met the mothers of the two accused. «I looked at them, step by step, I looked in their eyes for an expression of pity, a sign of empathy but they looked like statues walking. I would have acted as a mother, I would have combined rationality with sentiment. And then I would have approached that mother who had lost the most extraordinary son of her that Heaven could give her, and I would have asked her for forgiveness ».

“We have removed a burden but we feel neither satisfaction nor joy, it is a step towards justice”, said Niccolò’s father, Luigi Ciatti, after the decision of the popular jury, “it is the demonstration that those who carry out these acts must to pay.
